For the first time in 2.5 years... hearing the voices of parents... For the first time in 2.5 years, hearing the voices of their own children... For the first time in 2.5 years, touching their native land with their own hands. For the first time reading Ukrainian words on greeting cards. For the first time in 2.5 years, logging into their Instagram and marveling at the visual changes.

These very exhausted yet happy people wrapped themselves in national flags with all their might, singing the Ukrainian national anthem with hoarse, worn-out voices, simply because it was the first time they were doing it in 2.5 years.

The embraces with these people were very special. I have ever felt such closeness from hugs with strangers before.
